Q1. Term required for filing a patent application in Qatar?
10 Years from filing date and renewable for 10 years within 6 months before expiry or 6 months after expiry with surcharge. Priority Deadline: 6 months from the priority application filing date.
Q2. What is the Duration of Patents in Qatar ?
A patent is valid for 20 years starting from the Qatar filing date, (in case of PCT, starting from the PCT filing date). The term of protection is non-extendable
Q3. What are the Filing requirements in Qatar ?
- Power of attorney legalised by the Qatari Consulate.
- Certified copy of the extract of the entry of the applicant in the Commercial Register.
- Abstract, specifications, drawings, and claims in English along with Arabic translation.
- Deed of assignment signed by both parties legalised by the Qatari Consulate if the applicant is not the inventor.
- Certified copy of the original application in case priority is claimed.
Q4. How to examine a patent application in Qatar?
The Office shall examine patent applications. The applicant may appeal a decision by the Office to refuse grant of the patent within 15 days from the date of notification by the Office
