Q1. Term required for filing a patent application in singapore ?
The term for filing a patent application claiming conventional priority is 12 months from the priority date. This term may be extended by up to two months upon payment of an additional fee.
Q2. What is the Duration of Patents in singapore?
Singaporean patents are valid for 20 years from the date of filing, subject to payment of annual renewal fees starting from the end of the 4th year.

Q4. How to examine a Singapore patent application?
Examination
For practical purposes, there are two types of examination available, namely local search and examination, and supplementary examination.
Local search and examination is conducted by the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS). The examiner conducts a search in respect of each of the claims of the application to determine patentability.
For Singapore national phase applications, local search and examination is to be requested within 36 months of the earliest priority date of the application.
The grounds of examination will include an assessment of whether:
- the claims are novel and inventive;
- the claims are supported by the description;
- the claimed invention is capable of industrial applicability (methods of medical treatment are not taken to be capable of industrial application);
- the application includes added subject matter;
- the invention as claimed is contrary to morality;
- there is double patenting; and
- each of the claims relates to a claim that has been searched.
- the claims being examined are “related” to claims in the corresponding application on which supplementary examination is based;
- the claims are supported by the description;
- the invention as claimed is contrary to morality;
